Our Learning Curriculum

Interest Based Curriculum

At Little Emu Academy, our learning program is designed using an Interest Based Curriculum. Using this curriculum, we plan engaging experiences based on children’s interests, abilities, and developmental stages. Through play, routines, and meaningful interactions, children are encouraged to explore, ask questions, and build important life skills.

Our program supports:

  • Early literacy and numeracy skills

  • Social skills, confidence, and emotional wellbeing

  • Independence and self-help skills

  • Creativity, movement, and problem-solving

Educators carefully guide learning each day, creating a balance between structured activities and free play. This helps children feel secure while still having the freedom to explore and learn naturally.

School Preparation

Incorporated within our day care program, our preschool program supports a smooth transition into school by building strong foundations through play and everyday experiences.

By following children’s interests, educators create meaningful learning opportunities that naturally develop early literacy and numeracy skills, such as listening, problem-solving, counting, and recognising patterns. These experiences help children build confidence and a positive attitude toward learning.

Rather than formal worksheets or written tasks, learning happens through hands-on play, conversations, stories, games, and group experiences. This approach helps children strengthen their current skills while gently extending them in ways that feel enjoyable and achievable.

Our program is thoughtfully planned and guided by educators to ensure children are challenged, supported, and well prepared for the routines, expectations, and learning styles of preschool and school.

The focus is on helping children feel confident, capable, and ready for their next stage of learning.

Extra-Curricular Programs
